The "Buffalo Technology WHR-HP-G54 Wireless-G
MIMO Performace Router and Access Point" and "Buffalo AirStation WHR-G54S" sold by Amazon
includes the "Buffalo Technology 4bBi Detachable High Gain Omni Directional Antenna-WLE-AT-NDRHB (Black)"
as its attena, not the Older European Version: 2.0 dBi Rubber Duck Antenna that is shown in some
of the pictures.
So if you order the WHR-HP-G54 or the Buffalo AirStation WHR-G54S from Amazon,
do NOT bother to order the "optional" High Gain ... WLE-AT-NDRHB attena because it is the exact
same attena (the WHR-G54S one is white instead of black but I tried the black one and the performace
was exactly the same).

D-Link WDA-1320 Wireless G Desktop Adapter Review

I bought this wireless card to replace the Linksys WMP54G v4.1 which I could never make it to work with Suse 10. To my total surprise, this D-Link WDA-1320 works with Suse 10 without any hassle - no need to use Ndiswrapper and 3rd party driver. The card was correctly detected by the system after the machine was booted up in Linux mode (it's a dual boot machine). I configured the card using Suse's YaST2 tool and that's it. This card doesn't have a great range. It comes with a tiny antenna, and even after I replaced the antenna with the bigger antenna from the old Linksys card, the signal stength is still kind of weak. There were also some minor problems during driver installation as usual. But I can't complain as it works just fine and it works with Suse 10 out of the box, thank goodness!
By the way, the card I got has the Hardware Version A1 and Firmware Version 1.0

Netgear MA401 802.11b Wireless PC Card Review

Netgear MA401 802.11b Wireless PC Card
Average Reviews:

I received this wireless card as a gift with the Linksys wireless access point. This card was VERY easy to install in my IBM T21 laptop running Windows 2000. The Linksys wireless access point works great, but there have been a number of reviews on the difficulty configuring the Linksys card--we ran into similar problems after purchasing a Linksys Card for a second laptop in the house). After doing my own product comparison, I would highly recommend the NetGear wireless card over the Linksys card. For range of signal and ease of setup, the NetGear card is far superior. With the NetGear Card connectivity rarely drops, and I had no need to download additional drivers to install the card. When placed equidistant from the Linksys wireless access point, we'd see an Excellent Link Quality on the Netgear card Configuration utility, but on the similar utility on the Linksys card, we would see either poor or NO signal. This Netgear card is a fine product, I'm definitely enjoying the freedom of no wires while surfing the web.

When I got a computer for my bedroom, I realized that it would be extremely inconvinent to run an ethernet cable from the router to there so I googled around and bought this on newegg. This was the first wifi adapter I ever had and it worked great for a month. Then it started randomly working off and on, and somehow the case fell off of it. A week after the case fell off of it, the usb plug and the device itself broke apart(I accidently touched it and got quite the shock). For the time it did work, it worked fine. After this I bought a $5 one on ebay, its case fell off too. I'm now going to spend the money to buy a nice one, but for those going the cheap route don't get this one.

Cisco-Linksys EFAH08W EtherFast 8-Port 10/100 Auto-Sensing Hub (Desktop) Review

Cisco-Linksys EFAH08W EtherFast 8-Port 10/100 Auto-Sensing Hub (Desktop)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, the current picture of a black hub is mistaken - the box looks like the other current linksys routers / hubs with the bright blue and black plastic box design.
That having been said, this hub worked perfectly out of the box. It is used to network among machines running Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Linux, using a variety of ethernet cards (3Com, Linksys, NetGear). It has been used several weeks now without a problem. Setup took minutes!
Besides this item, I have bought and used several Linksys products before, including several 4-port hubs, a 4-port router, PC network cards and a laptop card. All of these have worked flawlessly with the other network equipment I have used. In some cases they replaced an item that cost 3-6 times more yet did not work as well!
I noticed some other users have had issues with this product, so here are a few pointers about networking that might help:
1) Hubs allow computers to talk to connect to each other on a local network. All a hub does is allow a computer which is set up to be on the network to talk to another computer.
2) To create a local network that can talk to the internet, you either need to buy an IP address for every machine and use a hub, or use a router to allow multiple computers on the internal network to look to anyone on the internet as having a single IP address. (Don't forget the cable/DSL connection & modem.)
3) The maximum speed that the hub supports may be 100 Mbps, but the speed is limited by the speed of the ethernet card as well! Some ethernet cards are only rated for 10Mbps - so that is the maximum connection speed you'll get using them.

The EtherFast 10/100 Auto-Sensing Hubs from Linksys provide a fast and economical way to build or extend an enterprise 100 Mbps network. This eight-port hub lets you connect computers, workstations, servers, or other nodes in seconds. Every port of the hub automatically adjusts to either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps speeds, allowing you to mix 10BaseT and 100BaseTX hardware together any way you like--all on the same hub. Combine low-cost 10 Mbps computers with high-speed Fast Ethernet workstations, and save money by putting 100 Mbps hardware only where you need it most.

I purchased this card for a PowerMacintosh G4 Quicksilver tower. After reading about some possible difficulties with this card in a Mac, I called Belkin before purchasing it. The friendly tech person assured me that all versions of this card would work in a Mac with the latest version of OSX. Sure enough, I bought the card, installed it, and it just works. Nothing to modify or install. Whether or not this means they've returned their line to the Broadcom chipset, or the Apple Airport drivers now detect the new chipset, I don't know. All I can say is that this card works flawlessly in a PowerMac G4 tower with OS 10.4.3.

My original Belkin F5D7010 ver 3000 card died in Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger. This version uses the Ralink chipset, and there is no currently available software for this card with Tiger (see my F5D7010 review).
I then purchased this F5D7011 card, which utilizes the Broadcom chipset (as in AirPort cards), and it it works in Tiger using the AirPort software in my Powerbook G4 (DVI, 667MHz). Oddly, the normal 'AirPort Setup Assistant' application did not work, but the 'AirPort Setup Assistant for Graphite or Snow' hooked up just fine.
Others have claimed similar success with F5D7010 ver 1000 or 2000, which also utilize the Broadcom chipset. These should also work in Tiger, but I have not tried these directly and cannot confirm the findings.
I'm very happy with the new setup. No more buggy Ralink software, and wireless access while in OS X 10.4. Hope this works for you too.

NETGEAR WG511T Super-G Wireless PC Card

At least when paired with the Netgear WGT624 WAP/Router this card does indeed have a significant farther range than for instance the DLINK 614+ was was currently using. I can go from one corner of the house downstairs to a bedroom at the opposite corner of the house upstairs, on a waterbed at almost full speed (this gave the DLINK some trouble).
It also comes with a nifty utility that does a better job than Windows with settings and statistics (like actual network throughput).
One minor issue may be with how hot this card gets which is always a concern with a laptop. To the cards credit there are settings for Power Save and Transmit Power which may help.

Cisco-Linksys WMP54GS Wireless-G PCI Card with SpeedBooster Review

Cisco-Linksys WMP54GS Wireless-G PCI Card with SpeedBooster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good? Wireless speeds are in excess of the 802.11g spec, so I am getting 100-110Mbps (12.5-13.5 MBps) from the basement to the living room easily. Once the initial horror of setup was over, I've been happily connected ever since. And you can't beat the price: Linksys gear is dropping in price, likely due to a ramp-up of pre-N gear on the horizon. (That's the new 802.11n standard which promises 6x the g-rate, and pre-N Belkin gear is delivering triple the speeds, so 150Mbps, or nearly 19 MBps).
The bad? Customer support, or lack thereof. I had a problem with the client not seeing the router. The *real* problem was the firewall on the basement machine. However, mention the words "Workgroup" or "file and printer sharing" to a Live Chat Specialist and watch how fast they come back with "we don't support configuring Windows" and a link to a knowledgebase article that will not give you a step-by-step diagnostic.
That's a shame, because a troubleshooting map would come in real handy. I fixed the problem myself -- I usually do with rare exception -- but for the non-IT professional, I fear for you. It's Belkin or Netgear for me next time.
And even more: the DHCP server on these routers are apparently very flaky. I could never get mine to give up an IP address to my WMP54GS card, so in the ened I configured it for a static IP and was connected. Woe to the inexperienced customer who tries to get an IP from one of these automatically. This issue is known throughout the Internet, but good luck trying to get Linksys to admit the problem and fix it.
The ugly? Try installing it. IF you manage to see your router on the first shot, your karma is perfect and heaven awaits you. Sinners like myself are forced to install the Linksys drivers only after the failed promise of Wireless Zero Configuration fails. Yes, you'll be switching between the Windows config and Linksys config a few times until you get it right. My suggestion would be to ensure you can see the router first (channel selection being the biggest 'gotcha' here), then worry about encryption and such.
Also, don't be surprised if the DHCP server on the WRT54GS router doesn't give you an IP address. It's a known issue to the outside world, which is waiting for Linksys to admit it and fix it. Configuring your WMP54GS with a static IP will get you fully connected in every case.
I have companion reviews for the WRT54GS and WUSB11, also Linksys gear. They won't be very flattering, either, but it's XMas time, and readers should not be giving bad gifts.
Fred

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Speedbooster (WUSB54GS) Review

Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Speedbooster (WUSB54GS)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It took me hours to finally get the Linksys WUSB54GS network adapter to work on a Win XP box with my Linksys WRT54GS router. The solution was to use the XP Wireless Zero configuration tool instead of the supplied Linksys Wireless Network Monitor!
I used the supplied driver installation CD-ROM v1.15 to install the drivers for the WUSB54GS, plug the adapter in and it was able to associate with the router but couldn't acquire an IP address. I had WPA-PSK + AES security turned on and SSID broadcast disabled. When I enabled SSID broadcast *OR* disabled WPA security, the adapter could connect and acquire an IP address. Go figure.
Finally, I switched to XP Wireless Zero Configuration. Bingo! The adapter was able to connect and acquire an IP address, with all the above security features still in place.
Apparently, the installation software v1.15 solved the "res.dll" error that people complained about in their reviews. If you can get the adapter working with the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor, great! Otherwise, give the Wireless Zero Configuration tool a try (of course if you are using Win XP).
The wireless connection seems to be relatively stable. It stays connected at 54Mbps most of the time. Occasionally it drops to 48Mbps or 36Mbps, but then manages to get back to 54Mbps. Signal strength stays around Very Good to Excellent (adapter is one floor above the router). Nevertheless, I occasionally get a lost packet when I do a ping but it's less than 1%, which doesn't seem to affect any network activities such as websurfing and transferring huge files though.
