(More customer reviews)I'm giving this router a low rating (two stars) for a very specific situation. 99% of you should ignore this review. If you want to do some DD-WRT hacking, however, then read on.
The problem is that 4MB flash storage is extremely constraining. That's not enough space to build in the full DD-WRT feature set. In most DD-WRT firmware images, the builder has to pick and choose what to support. Buffalo, for instance, chose to leave out support for JFFS2 filesystem from their image -- which means you don't have writable filesystem storage that persists across a reboot. The firmware does not include OpenVPN either. There are others, but those are the two that convinced me to switch to a different router.
Other routers, such as the ASUS RT-N12, also have a 4MB flash limit. For those routers, you'll find a variety of firmware images available for download on the DD-WRT web site. Hopefully one of them will offer the set of features you want (squeezed into the 4MB space).
That's not possible with the WHR-HP-GN. Buffalo offers only the one DD-WRT firmware image. The DD-WRT site only has a single image for recent versions.
Sure, it's open source, so you could build your own, but that's really hard.
So I don't think this router is a good choice if you are looking for a platform to try various DD-WRT builds and feature sets.
