(Both are still running fine on someone elses desk)
This is the best yet and I am sure there are even better ones to come.
This one is dual core, has gigabit LAN, and no fan at all is required.
It can use 4GB (2x2GB) of DDR2-800 RAM so it will work well with Windows 7.
I am using it with XP Pro and it does everything I need it to do.
It is stable and fast enough for drafting, word processing, and photo editing.
I wouldn't expect it to be used for editing video except occasionally.
The onboard video looks good to me.
I do wish it had HDMI and/or a DVI connector which it lacks.
It has a flash interface, 4 rear, abd 2 front USB ports which is handy.
For hardware hackers and folks with legacy hardware there are still headers to attach parallel and serial connectors.
That's getting rarer these days.
This is a great little board if you are not a mega-gamer or do a lot of video editing.
It is stable, reliable and relatively inexpensive, and it sips power compared to most rigs.
I have it in an Apex M008 mITX case, with a 320GB WD 3.5" HD, 4GB of OCZ Gold DDR2-800, and a Samsung DVD writer.
The 4GB is not necessary if you are running XP or even Windows 7 for most folks.
2GB is plenty and would use less power. For XP 1GB might be adequate.

This unit has 16 ports of 10/100/1000 and an internal power supply (no wall wart). There is no fan in the device which means that it is completely silent (great for home). (More customer reviews)I found this product while looking for a way to split the LAN at my job into two. We get one ethernet cord running to our desk and that's it. I was worried that my company would have some kind of block to not allow this to happen (they don't allow streaming video, audio, etc... so they block a lot of things). I found the unit on sell (about half price) and decided it was worth the price to try it. I tried it at home at first and it worked great (I have a router at home, so don't really need this at home, but just wanted to make sure it worked at home so if it didn't at the office, then I'd know it wasn't the device). I unplugged the ethernet from one computer, plugged this in and plugged in two computers. So, basically, there was one ethernet cord going from the router to the TRENDnet box and two computers branched off from there. Worked great - no set up needed, just plug-n-play. So, now for the big test: I took it to work. Worked with no big problems - same plug-n-play. The only thing is that when I plug my computer directly to the work LAN, it says the connection at 1 GBPS, but through this device, it shows up as 100 MBPS. I can't really tell any problems so far with speed - everything is working as normal, but now I have online access on both my work computer and my laptop. So, for me, this device works as advertised and meets my needs.
PS - sorry for my non-technical review, but I'm no tech expert!
PPS - don't forget you'll need an additional ethernet cord to make this connection. I didn't think of it at first, but luckily remembered before I finished my transaction and was able to pick up a cheap 3-footer.

(More customer reviews)Recently we have installed network storage devices, and started to run backups and multi-media services on our home LAN (local area network). As a result the load on our network increased substantially. We decided to upgrade from fast ethernet to gigabit. Due to the arrangement of devices, we have several 8 port switches connected to a larger 24 bit switch which I guess is the backbone of our LAN.
When shopping for gigabit switches, the Trendnet 8 port gigabit greennet switch came up as not only a low cost, but also a low power switch. We purchased several and have been using them for almost half a year.
These switches are silent (there is no fan), and very low power (on my Killowatt meter they always show 0 watts), and very fast. They have limited support for jumbo packets (I forget the exact number, but its around a jumbo packet size of 7-9K).
This is a good solution as a low power, silent, gigabit switch that runs cool and is low cost. The switch is unmanaged, but does have status indicator lights. You will see if you are getting fast ethernet or gigabit speeds on each port. We have had no trouble with these switches.
