(More customer reviews)Not for beginners. Easy to set-up but it will leave security holes and you have to know how to deal with that. Comes with Verizon firmware - so Actiontech support will send you to Verizon support and viceversa.
Actiontech "tech" support is overseas-based, script-reading, using barely understandable English. They have NO knowledge of the product, settings and configuration. You can ask and explain as much as you like, you will get the same answer from the script and nothing else.
Can't find a setting to disable answering to PING from WAN side - and according to tech support you can't do that as per Verizon request (?!).
This is of course wrong. Firewall in High setting will block PINGs from WAN side but you have to configure manually the ports - a major headache.
So: - hard/impossible to configure, no tech support that you can speak of (and giving wrong info at that), leaves security holes that you have to know how to plug, has the added limits of the Verizon firmware.
Verizon customers: - BEFORE installing this modem release your IP address (do ipconfig/release). After you install you will have the DSL connection but will can't access the Internet - you still have to access http:/192.168.1.1/restricted/verizon and use the on/off button to get connected = so you can access the Internet. If you call Verizon tech support (because you can't connect) they will tell you to do that.
Another note for Verizon users: west coast users and east coast users have different settings! Just because you find on some forum/review/post Verizon settings does not necessarily mean that is applicable to you.
For WEST coast: DCHP=Yes, IP dynamic=Yes ;
Detail settings see below:
Verizon DSL (CA state),
VPI=0, VCI=35,
MAC encapsulation=Yes
Routing=LLC/SNAP Bridging,
Obtain IP Address Automatically,
Connection type=MER,
Service name=mer_0_35(default),
Servicd category=UBR(UBRw/oPCR),
Service state=NAT,
Firewall=enabled,
IGMP Multicast,
Quality of service=disabled,
user/password=admin/admin to start.
Hope that this helps.
