(More customer reviews)D-Link really did a good job of taking a product by Linksys, and blowing it out of the water... kinda. The Linksys equivalent of this device had many complaints because it required you to reformat your external disks into ext3 format. The D-Link device does not require that, and allows you to use stand alone hard disks, thumb drives, or any usb removable media right away. The problem with this device is that it just came out, so there are few people at D-Link who can support the issues that arise. One of those being the fact that my external hard drives mount as read only, which means I can't do much with them. In the configuration, they are set up to be Read/Write access, so the issue is with the product, not me. I tried using it with my digital camera, and I could write to it just fine. None of my three external hard disks, two of them the same one of them different, will give me write access, but I am able to read from them just fine. I've called D-Link and tried to get a solution for this, but one doesn't exist yet. It's quite likely that this will be fixed in the next firmware release, since right now the original is the only version available, so I would put off buying this for a little while to see if this matter gets solved.
